About the Position
Third-level Attorney responsible for handling more complex or sensitive legal matters including cases concerning fraud, federal or state regulations, and state leases and contracts; implementing state procedures; and supervising legal support personnel. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing and interpreting state, federal and agency regulations; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; presentation of administrative cases to the Board for potential discipline of a licensee or permittee; representing the state or agencies in court or any tribunal; responding to subpoenas and requests for public records; and performing legal research and preparing legal briefs.
What you'll need to be Successful
To be successful in this role as a Third-level Attorney, you need strong analytical and interpretive skills to navigate complex legal issues, including state and federal regulatory compliance, and contractual matters. An enjoyment of the intellectual challenges of litigation in an administrative setting and effective communication abilities are crucial for preparation and presentation of administrative cases to the Board for potential discipline, preparing clear and persuasive legal documents, instruments, and briefs for administrative and executive decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association. **Agency Preferred Qualifications: Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association with Five (5) years of experience. Prefers experience with litigation and/or presentation of disciplinary cases at administrative hearings.
